Episode 10: Viva Italia! (airing 4/23/08 ) FINAL SIX!
The remaining models head off to their international destination, Italy, where they are faced with the challenging task of filming a commercial in Italian.
My commentary on this episode here.
Episode 11: We Are Spartans! (airing 4/30/08 ) FINAL FIVE!
The models learn Gladiator-style fighting with swords. Later, they are photographed by Tyra in an old Roman castle, where one of the girls leaves Tyra startled with her beauty.
My commentary on this episode here.
Episode 12: Ready For My Close-Up (airing 5/7/08 ) FINAL FOUR!
The roles are turned when the models are asked to step behind the camera and photograph Paulina. Later, Nigel photographs the contestants in a photo shoot where they must pose as famous movie icons. In the end, the girls find themselves in an unpleasant situation when none of the judges are impressed with a single model’s photograph.
This is one episode description that actually makes me want to watch the episode. Basically, because it sounds so awful. When I read that the girls were going to take over the cameras, I audibly scoffed. It kind of reminded me of Sara c8 and her insistence that she was going to win because she’s a photographer. While I can see how someone who is a good photographer might be better prepared to be on the other side of the camera… it definitely doesn’t work the other way. What makes them think that models are going to make good photographers? The hilarious part is that they’re probably just going to have the setup all ready for them, put the camera settings on “automatic” and then go on and on about what wonderful photographers they are. While you can get some good shots just pointing and shooting, a real photographer knows that there’s a lot more to a fashion shot than just that… way more than they could teach the girls in the course of a few hours.
Later, Nigel makes them pose as movie icons. Oh please… not again. For those of you that might have forgotten, cycle 2 had a celebrity photo shoot, and cycle 7 had an awful celebrity couples photo shoot. I’m really quite done with the “let’s dress up like someone else” photo shoot. And what sort of movie icons are the final four going to portray? Are these classic movie icons (a la Audrey Hepburn and Bette Midler?) or are these more contemporary celebrities (a la Anna Nicole Smith?)? Either way, it’s probably going to be just as awful as cycle 2 and cycle 7.
Oh, and wait — yes, it is! Tyra & Co. can’t find a single photo they like! MAYBE it’s because you’re not really shooting movie icons… you’re shooting girls pretending to be movie icons… and MAYBE it’s not a big surprise because it’s a lame idea for a photo shoot! Here’s a question for those more involved in the modeling world…
How likely is it really going to be that any of these girls in their modeling careers are going to be asked to dress up as another movie star/celebrity for an actual photo shoot?
And then… why have we in the course of ten cycles have we had THREE photo shoots that do just that? Hmmmmmm?

Episode 9: For Those About to Walk, We Salute You (airing 4/16/08 )
THE MODELS HIT THE RED CARPET Paulina drops by the loft to surprise the girls with tips on how to behave during press interviews and while attending public events. The girls are dressed by designer Jay Godfrey and must mingle with fashion world VIPs at a cocktail party. One girl breaks down when she realizes she lost her travel document and learns she may not be able to accompany the remaining girls to the secret overseas location.

Because cycle 7′s bullfighting shoot and cycle 9′s shoot as Chinese warriors defending the Great Wall against Mongol invaders weren’t enough… now ANTM is re-doing the same concept… Gladiator-style! I think that Tyra really needs to go back to Western Civilizations 101, because gladiators didn’t fight in castles… they fought in arenas such as the Colosseum. I guess Tyra & Co. couldn’t book the actual Colosseum? Or perhaps — as many things tend to go in ANTM history — the training/challenge doesn’t really have anything to do with the photo shoot at all. (Anyone remember learning how to participate in a traditional tea ceremony in China?)

Episode 6: House of Pain (airing 3/26/08)
Tyra surprises the girls in a dance studio and teaches them how to work their fierceness while posing at the end of a runway. During a pose-off in front of Tyra, one girl earns the opportunity to work with judge/photographer Nigel Barker while posing nude. Drama and voices escalate in the house when three ladies gang up against one girl who doesn’t know how to turn her alarm clock off in the early morning hours.

The girls join Mr. J for a photo shoot on Broadway at the Fuerza Bruta show and find out they will be shot through a plastic sheet while laying face down in water. One model is injured, while another gets a second makeover at the shoot

NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN FOOTAGE FROM CYCLE 10 A look at never-before-seen footage of the cycle 10 contestants that includes the ladies battling with posing instructor Benny Ninja and his team, New York City firefighters practicing their runway struts and contestant wrestling matches
Yawn. I really dislike the recap episode. I think it’s a huge waste of a time slot. Perhaps it’s because I’m the kind of person that’s really more interested in the photo shoots and eliminations than in the who-gets-along-with-whom and who-hates-whom in the house. Some drama sometimes can be fun, but goodness gracious, I certainly don’t need a whole episode of it. And wouldn’t it make more sense to have the recap episode closer to the END of the season? I mean, really… at this point, only seven episodes have aired. Blah.

Another week… another challenge… another photo shoot… another elimination. Who’s it going to be today?
I cannot express my joy at seeing Fatima in the first confessional – the one that has historically shown a girl that in this week would be in the bottom two. She basically said that she has to step up her game and practice, practice, practice.
Oh, and Dominique gets the second confessional. And Dominique believes in herself. And Dominique is here to stay. And Dominique can go on for days about it. And Dominique is obviously delusional.
And then Whitney shows up on screen as my mouthpiece, speaking the exact words that I was thinking. The main gist: “Shut UP already, Dominique.”
Marvita says that no one can connect with her and she’s not an affectionate person. What’s the point of this conversation? Is this leading up to something?
And then Claire shows up on screen as my mouthpiece, speaking the exact words that I was thinking. The main gist: “Marvita could be a model, but she needs to straighten her life out.” Only, Claire – because she’s nicer than I am – said it in a much nicer way.
Then there’s a tiny clip where Stacey-Ann calls Whitney fat and Whitney brushes it off. You rock, Whitney.
We’ll skip ahead to the rest of the house drama before talking about the challenge…
Dominique vs. Whitney
Basically, Dominique expects the other girls in the house to hold her hand and look after her and come get her when it’s her turn to use the phone (diva, anyone?) and she blames Whitney, because Whitney made the phone list.
And Claire shows up at the kitchen table as my mouthpiece, speaking the exact words that I was thinking. The main gist: “Dominique, it’s your own responsibility to keep track of when it’s your turn to use the phone. Don’t try placing the blame on Whitney, who was just trying to make everyone’s life easier by creating a system.”
Dominique says that the way Whitney talks is disrespectful; Whitney says she has no reason to respect Dominique. Dom in confession spins Whitney’s words and says that Whitney doesn’t like anyone and that she’s the kind of person that “doesn’t like people.” (I have no idea why that should be in quotes. Dominique used air quotes there… for no good reason.) Whitney says Dominique seems uneducated.
And then Lauren shows up at the kitchen table as my mouthpiece, speaking the exact words that I was thinking. The main gist: “This whole conversation is stupid, so shut up.”
And Dominique says that Whitney is (and I quote) “a big brick wall who’s like, racist towards anyone and everyone.” Huh?
And Whitney gets understandably upset. She’s exactly right: “racist” isn’t a term you just throw around when you’re mad at someone. And from Dominique’s explanation, I’m not sure she knows what “racist” means.
Also, an observation for you:
So, last week they focused a lot on Amis and Fatima complained about her being childish… and she went home.
This week they are focusing a lot on Marvita and Fatima is complaining about her being childish… hmmmmmm
TYRA MAIL!! Challenge: “Benny Ninja and Vendela Try to Teach the Girls to Pose”
You all know your ABCs but what about the 3 Cs? Love, Tyra
Tyra, are you certain they all know their ABCs? I wonder about some of those girls.
Highlights of the challenge:
- Benny Ninja is not at all impressed with Lauren, Claire, or Marvita
- Benny Ninja was impressed with Katarzyna, Stacey-Ann, and Dominique
TYRA MAIL!! Challenge
The battle is on. You better bring it to the center and work. Love, Tyra
“You better”? You better use better English next time, Tyra.
Highlights of the challenge:
- Dominique says she “fits in” with draggish, beautiful posers. Heh. Sure, that sounds accurate.
- The teams seemed unequally matched… Lauren, Dominique, Fatima, Anya, and Aimee vs. Whitney, Stacey-Ann, Claire, Marvita, and Katarzyna. I’m rooting for Team B.
- Claire v. Dominique (tie)
- Lauren v. Marvita (Lauren wins)
- Anya v. Stacey-Ann (Stacey wins)
- Fatima v. Whitney (Whitney wins)
- Aimee v. Katarzyna (Kat wins)
- Claire wins the challenge – Woo hoo!! – and she wins a trip to Bora Bora, Tahiti
TYRA MAIL!! Photo Shoot
LA is all about your car. NYC is all about your coat. Love, Tyra
Coats. Of paint. “Ah, Tyra, you so clever!” (said in Shaya’s “Ah, Shaya, you so ghetto” voice)
Highlights:
- everyone does well except for Marvita and Fatima (and to a lesser extent, Stacey-Ann)
- Dominique actually pulls of a good shoot (bummer)
Dominique is confident, Marvita says “I don’t want to go home,” which means a bottom-two for sure.
TYRA MAIL!! Judging Panel
Okay, so they didn’t actually show the Tyra mail… but you know they must have gotten one.
Just a few judging highlights before we get to the photos:
- What was up with Dominique’s outfit? She looked like a receptionist.
- Okay… why can’t Tyra leave Kat alone. You want her to look like a matronly old librarian? She put her hair up in a bun! What more do you want???
- I couldn’t believe the look on Tyra’s face when Fatima said she didn’t shave. For all she knew, it could have been a cultural difference! Of course, then again… it seems to me that Fatima’s legs are definitely shaved… and you think if she’d go through the trouble to do that she’d at least run it over her pits as well.
- I felt really bad for Lauren for losing her shoes… and I felt bad that they laughed at her for wearing size 10. But I do think that she needs longer jeans.
- I thought Claire looked great today
- Stacey-Ann’s pant legs are different lengths. Just sayin’So, here’s the photos, in order of my favorite to my least favorite:
Anya – Why do the judges hate Anya this week? Is it all a ploy to keep people from thinking they’re playing favorites? I thought her pose was the most high-fashion, and her face shone forth a beautiful softness. I’m not a huge Anya fan, but I definitely thought this was the best shot this week.
Claire – The judges said it would be perfect with another inch of neck. I claim… Claire has a long neck! It just looks shorter when you put those huge chunky stones on it! I love this photo… it’s intense, it’s slightly androgynous, and it’s fierce.
Lauren – I kind of doubt that this was her best shot. I mean, it’s beautiful alright, but from the video of the photo shoot, I’m kind of disappointed that they didn’t pick one with a more interesting pose. Regardless, I think her face is strong and beautiful, and she finally looks like she knows what she’s doing.
Katarzyna – Like Lauren’s, I’m a bit skeptical as to whether or not this were really her best shot. There seemed to be more interesting poses in the video clips. Regardless, the judges praised her eyes, which I also thought were fairly good
Aimee – She does have a very classic loveliness about her, and I think that Tyra’s comment about her being too much of a chameleon was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard; I don’t think that applies to her at all.
Whitney – I’m kind of disappointed that they chose yet another of her photos with her mouth open, and in this one her eyes look unfocused (or focused on two completely different things?), but it was still overall a decent shot.
Stacey-Ann – I noticed the paint, and then I noticed her. I think she’s buried in the paint and just kind of standing there as we admire the pretty colors. Not impressed… though the judges were.
Dominique – Her hand doesn’t even look like it’s her own, her pose bores me, and I’m not seeing anything striking in her face. Why oh why do the judges like her so much?
Fatima – First off… if you’re a model who doesn’t shave her pits, wouldn’t you at least know that’s not normal and that you maybe shouldn’t go around parading your pits in the photographer’s face? Secondly, I don’t see her doing anything different with her face than what she’s already done. Her face in this one is a mirror image of her promo shot.
Marvita – She was going for soft and pretty and ended up looking sad, pathetic, and uninterested. What is it about this cycle that makes girls lose their passion and desire to model? First Kimberly, then Amis, now Marvita (with Whitney and Fatima also being accused of not taking it seriously?) Huh?Okay, so here’s the actual final call-out order:
1 Stacey-Ann (ugh)
2 Dominique (double ugh)
3 Claire (Woo hoo!)
4 Anya
5 Lauren
6 Aimee
7 Katarzyna (Tyra’s getting a bit better at pronouncing her name)
8 Fatima
Whitney and Marvita are the bottom two. (Whitney? Bottom two? Not invested??? Just because she did the splits? What?!?!?)
Needless to say, I breathed a huge sigh of relief when Whitney’s name was called. I might have had to shut down this blog if she were sent home for such a bogus reason.
And Tyra gives Marvita a nice little pep talk before she leaves. Buh-bye.

This cycle is definitely keeping me on my toes which my favorites list. Claire and Katarzyna continue to do well in the competition and avoid doing things that annoy me, so they continue to be my top two. Of all the girls in the house, those two (along with Lauren, Anya, and Stacey-Ann) seem to pretty much stay out of the drama and bickering, which definitely makes them seem more mature and worthy of winning.
Lauren surprised me this week. I was glad that Jaslene gave her that much-needed wake-up call; this week at the photo shoot she really applied herself and produced what I feel is the strongest photo yet this cycle. Bonus points for Lauren… and for the first time since pre-show, she’s back in my top three.
Whitney also continues to wow the judges, and I appreciated that she stuck up for Aimee during the War of the Shower this week. Aimee herself, however, seems to be getting set up for a fall. I’m sensing some Brittany C8 vibes from her attitude – she doesn’t seem to be getting along with many of the other girls, they don’t seem to understand her, and she doesn’t do a particularly good job standing up for herself… I sense a major emotional breakdown on the horizon.
Anya also impressed me this week; she did a great job on the photo shoot and her makeover isn’t bothering me as much this week as it was last week. Stacey-Ann has a great lack of screentime, so I don’t really have much of an opinion about her this week.
Despite the fact that she was eliminated weeks ago, Atalya ended up moving up, basically because of my growing dislike for Dominique, Marvita, and Amis. While I initially found Dom’s self-confidence refreshing, after weeks of being on the bottom, she’s still insisting that she’s an amazing, high-fashion diva and that she’s in the forerunning of the competition. So, now I’m wondering if she’s delusional, or just a bit slow to catch on to things. Either way, it’s getting a bit old… as is her look. I don’t think her “new” haircolor this week made her any less soccer-mom-looking than her ‘do last week.
Marvita has been portrayed as being a very one-dimensional character… “I’m calloused and tough because I had a hard life.” Her photos all look the same to me, and there is nothing about her personality which draws me to her. I really don’t know what the judges see in her.
I was glad that Amis went home. She really was just there for the experience, which is fine for her, but the attention-getting tactics, constant flightiness, and ridiculous talking-just-to-hear-her-own-voice were wearing on my nerves.
Fatima dropped a few points in my book for a number of reasons. First off, her “enlightened” logic about how they should all gang up on Whitney instead of Aimee because “Whitney likes to start a lot of things.” (Because obviously it was Whitney that called Allison’s butt big last week, told Amis she acted like a clown the week before, flung her arm out at Marvita after the first fashion show, and called the black girls at the casting “ghetto.” Yup… must’ve been Whitney.) Also, the whole shoe thing at the fire house was just stupid; she should know better than to get on Miss Jay’s bad side – he’s a judge for goodness sake!
Stats coming soon. Hopefully I’ll be able to dig up some more episode descriptions for you, too.

At the risk of sounding preachy… what was up with that meat photo shoot? After the homeless photo shoot, I’ll admit that I didn’t have particularly high expectations of this one, but the whole concept ended up being far more disgusting and far less meaningful than I even expected.
What I expected was some sort of mediocre, half-hearted political viewpoint; but I’m not even sure if this shoot was supposed to be pro-meat or anti-meat? Neither? Both? It certainly didn’t make me want to go out and eat a steak (if I were the type of girl that liked red meat anyways). On the contrary, it made me want to “ralph” (as Claire so succinctly put it). It seemed to be saying that meat was fashionable to wear, much as the first photoshoot seemed only to be saying that homeless people can be trendy and fierce, too… or something.
And whatever happened to being “green”? First, we have a giant, gas-guzzling limo; next we have pounds and pounds of meat which is no longer suitable to be used – how wasteful! Comments? Thoughts? Suggestions about what they could do with the meat that was worn (besides just throwing it away)?

It’s time for episode four, for us to find out who has the best firehouse strut, how Lauren handles Jaslene’s criticism, how Tyra plans to fix Do-mom-ique’s hairdo, and who will be eliminated next.

Dominique once again gets the first confessional close-up of the episode. Oh, honey…you aren’t so safe from the bottom-two yet. While in the gas-guzzling Tyra-mobile, she goes on and on about how she’s here to stay (which somewhat echoes last week’s opening as well), and Whitney rolls her eyes. I do, too. And I’m not certain why she thinks it’s the “best bottom two ANTM has ever had.” In case she hasn’t noticed, each time there is a bottom two, one of those people is given another week. Your “special treatment” ain’t so special, honey.Back in the house, Fatima is back to giving advice. (Shut UP already… once you get a top photo, Fatima, THEN I’ll let you go back to telling everyone what to do.) Lauren got the second confessional of the week, which means she may not do so hot this week, either. Or they could just be playing it up for her confrontation with Jaslene.
Katarzyna and Amis are having fun, dancing. Fatima mumbles about how stupid they are, what a joke Amis is, and how she doesn’t think that Amis really wants it. Has this girl never had a day of fun in her life? What’s so stupid about goofing off and dancing around? Yes, Amis’ constant flittyness can get annoying, but Fatima’s constant complaining is getting on my nerves.
TYRA MAIL!!
Turn up the heat, or you’ll get hosed.
They end up at the fire station for their runway challenge. The first part is a quick change into their tacky little outfits. Fatima annoys Miss Jay by not changing her shoes. And doing so, she also annoys me.
So, they do their walk-off… Katarzyna has to be careful about her shoulders, Claire’s strut was praised, Stacy-Ann was told to stay loose, Anya looked like she was walking on hot coals, Whitney’s walk was praised, Dominique was told that she actually has a good walk, but was way too flirty. Aimee’s pace was good, Fatima marches like a Clydsdale (what’s their obsession with horses this cycle?) which made Jay lose all faith in her, Lauren can’t walk, Amis skips (WTF?)
Now she’s driving me nuts. Kick her off, Tyra! And Fatima, too! Double elimination!Aimee wants to take a shower. The other girls don’t want her to lock the door, so they can still get in and use the toilet. They’re making a huge deal out of her not liking to be naked in front of people, which tends not to be a good sign. I totally love and respect that she has strong morals and values, but the fact that they’ve brought it up twice now in one episode does not bode well.
So… it’s time for a CATFIGHT!
Marvita/Fatima/Dominique vs. Aimee/Whitney
Marvita goes off on Aimee, Whitney steps in and basically tells them that Aimee already told everyone that she wasn’t comfortable with the shower thing and to lay off. Marvita continues to shout that she didn’t know. Okay… so get over it, then. Oh, and Fatima gets her nosy self involved, and says that Whitney deserves to be harassed because she starts a lot of drama. Huh? Pot, meet kettle. Oh, and to top it off, Dominique calls Whitney “uncultured white trash.” Again, pot, meet kettle.
TYRA MAIL! – CHALLENGE
Better keep your story straight, or you will be out of order!
It’s a Tuleh fashion show. Huzzah. Lauren already thinks she’s going to do badly, which means she is. I’m getting a bit sick of her defeatist attitude. They meet Bryan Bradley, Andrew Weir, Ann Shoket, and “Miss Jaslene Cha-Cha-Diva.” And the winner gets to be in Seventeen with Jaslene. Oh, and Fatima says she doesn’t work well under pressure. You are in the entirely wrong industry then, girl.
Whitney flashed the entire audience, Lauren made Jaslene’s jaw drop, Fatima missed a button. The best part of that was that she didn’t think anyone would notice. No, no… it’s not noticeable at all.
Jay said, “Off with her head” and I laughed out loud. Yes, it was a rather evil laugh.Okay, so JASLENE can say Katarzyna’s name right, but Tyra can’t?
As much as I don’t like to admit it, when it comes to Lauren, I completely agree with Jaslene. She may have as much desire to be a model as the other girls, but she definitely doesn’t show it.
And the winner is Katarzyna. Yay! Her two friends that she picks to be in the shoot are Amis and Marvita. And when they’re shooting, Jaslene upstages everyone. And it didn’t look like Marvita or Amis were even trying to pose. Huh.
TYRA MAIL!! – PHOTO SHOOT
Prove that you’ve got the chops for this competition or you’ll be sent packing.
So, they’re posing with hunks… of meat. (Oh, you’re so punny, Jay Manuel). Whitney’s not phased. Fatima thinks it’ll be the most difficult shoot ever. Claire and Aimee think they’ll be sick. Highlights include Stacy-Ann faking screams (lame), Lauren rocking it with a serious attitude and scary/dark posing, and Aimee looking really uncomfortable.
TYRA MAIL!! – JUDGING
Tomorrow you will meet with the judges… blah, blah, blah… we know the drill.
Aimee is nervous about the photo shoot. Lauren is nervous about the runway. Amis is still sleeping when everyone’s getting ready for the competition. She looks a wreck. Do I smell a bottom two in there somewhere?
Tyra does some stupid singy thing when introducing the judges. Everyone pretends to laugh. ENOUGH, Tyra.
So, here are the photos, in order of my favorite to my least favorite!

Lauren – So, last week, her photo was one of my least favorites but they called it first. This week it’s my very favorite, and it doesn’t get a first call-out. Go figure. It looks editorial, she looks confident and poised, and she had the most unique poses of the whole group. Love it, love it.

Katarzyna – Hers also looked rather editorial, and she used the props, such as her skirt. I also thought that this was her first shot that she really worked the angles of her face well. The judges still think that she’s too sexy-looking (Brittany C4, anyone?), and Tyra tells her to wear a bun to the next judging panel.

Anya – I did think this was a really good photo, too. The judges continued to drool all over Anya’s shots, and I must say, it looks like she may have a final three spot in the bag. As Tyra said, this is definitely a fashion picture, and she does look the most comfortable of all the girls.

Whitney – She does need to learn to close her mouth, and I’m surprised that they haven’t called her out on it yet… but other than that, I like it. It’s playful and quirky, which I think worked well with her hair and makeup. It reminds me a bit of Brittany C8’s ice cream shot (Why? I have no idea.)

Claire – At first, I wasn’t sure about this one. The more I look at it, though, the more I like it. Tyra and Nigel liked it, so of course she got called early, but Paulina thought it was too 90s heroine and it didn’t really impress Jay, either. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the face, but on closer inspection, I decided what I really don’t like about it is the makeup… and with the excessive makeup, she really did make it work. She makes raw meat look stylish.

Dominique – The eyes are good, but the pose is a bit posey. Nigel kept referring to it as a calendar girl shot, and I guess I could see that, too.

Stacy-Ann – I just thought hers was rather boring. Jay referred to her pose as a “standard modeling 101 pose,” and it does come off as something that I’ve seen before. On the plus side, though, she’s working the angles of her face better.

Marvita – Been there, done that. If she were to bend at the knees, it would be almost exactly like her shot last week. Yawn. I’m so over her. And it seems that the judges are also catching on that she really only has one look.

Fatima – So. Sick. Of. Fatima. Her pose was boring, her face was weird, and she held that hook, but didn’t DO anything with it. Nigel says she needs to try harder, but from watching the photoshoots, I’m wondering if that maybe is all she’s got.

Aimee – I could tell (from their clever editing) that she wasn’t going to do well this week. This photo is so completely off that it’s hard to believe it’s the same person that pulled off the beautiful shots the previous two weeks. She seems to be slipping, and it doesn’t look good for her at all. Hopefully she’ll snap out of it.
Amis – She looked like a meatpacker. As opposed to a model posing in a meatpacking warehouse. I liked the fog rolling around her legs, but she can hardly be applauded for that. She does have a very pretty profile, but the judges were right – she had absolutely no focus.
And, then it was time to call out the girls that would NOT be going home this week.
1. Anya (top photo for the second time in three weeks, a feat accomplished previously by Shannon C1, Jaslene C8, and Jenah C9)
2. Whitney
3. Katarzyna (her first top-five photo!)
4. Claire (the only girl who’s been in the top five all three weeks)
5. Dominique (for “most improved”)
6. Stacy-Ann
7. Lauren (whom they said could have been called earlier but for her runway walk)
8. Marvita
9. Aimee
Which left Fatima and Amis in the bottom two, which made me shout “hoorah!” Frankly, I’d have been happy with either of them leaving, as they were both driving me absolutely nuts this week.
Amis – the unfocused, laissez-faire attitude girl whom they’re not sure really wants to be there
Fatima – the pretty girl who can only model one half of her body at a time
And, Amis was sent home, which, once again, I believe was the right decision. Even from her exit interview, it seems that she knew she wasn’t going to make it very far, and probably was just there for a fun learning experience. Sorry… time to go have fun back in Oklahoma. Buh-bye!

A Top Model makes Miss Jay Angry
It’s Fatima. Surprise, surprise. She’s been making everyone else angry; it’s about time the judges got a turn.
Top Model heats up the fire station
Katarzyna = fierce
Claire = fierce
Whitney = fierce
Dominique = scary
Top Model turns meat into fashion
Ew. That’s all I have to say about it.

It’s prediction time!
So how did I do last week?
Fatima cried during her makeover (although, it was really because of the pain of her weave and not because she hated it). Dominique should have cried about her makeover, but in her childlike enthusiasm obviously didn’t realize how awful it really was (for a model, that is… for a mom it looks cute). Allison also should have cried about her makeover, but didn’t. From one of her post-show interviews, though, she does mention that she went back to her natural color (a dark brown) and got a cut with bangs. So, I was sort of right. Sort of.
Although I didn’t physically throw anything at the TV, Allison & Fatima both made me want to with their constant bickering and cattiness.
Top photo? I was completely off. I never in a million years expected them to call Lauren first, especially after seeing her photo. It looks awkward, amateur, and like she has no idea what she’s doing. Nothing about it says “high fashion” to me, and I’m a little appalled that people are saying it is so.
And, Katarzyna was criticized for being too “mens’ magazine”… or, in this case, “Russian mail-order bride.” (Wait… so she looks like Natasha?)
Allison was eliminated (thank goodness!), which was exactly what I predicted (and hoped) would happen. I will NOT miss watching her on TV.
EPISODE 4
The next episode is entitled “Where’s the Beef” and involves a runway challenge with Jaslene “I-Walk-Like-This-All-The-Time-Every-Day” Gonzales from C8. While I’m glad it’s not Saleisha, Jaslene has always had a tendency to drive me nuts, too. And her hairdo for this episode reminded me of someone and it took me awhile to figure out who… almost every single female in any yearbook from the 70s! Or maybe Rambo? It’s okay, Jaslene, you’re only 30 years behind the times!
But I digress. Jaslene apparently offends someone, and from the previews it’s obvious that it’s Lauren, who looks like she doesn’t even want to be there when she’s on the runway. Which is absolutely true. Maybe Lauren will catch on that part of the “game” here is trying to be the girl that has the most desire and passion for the industry… before it’s too late.
And, they will be posing with meat. We already know from the preview that Claire isn’t too happy about that, as she says that she thinks she’s going to “ralph” (wow, that’s a term I haven’t heard in awhile! You’re showing your age there, Claire!) Although ANTM usually tries to get at least one illness into each cycle, I doubt it’s going to be this episode. If so, however, I vote for Claire as “most likely to become physically ill” in this episode.
Random predictions:
- Girl most likely to make me throw something at the TV: Fatima (hey, she hasn’t let me down in this category yet!)
- Girl most likely to be the challenge winner: Katarzyna (who won the casting episode’s runway challenge), or Claire (because she has a fierce walk and I’d love to see her win two weeks in a row).
- Girl most likely to cry this episode: Fatima (3 out of 3 episodes so far… we’ll see how long she keeps it going!)
- Girl most likely to get the top photo: Claire (hey, I can hope!), Lauren (working hard to prove Jaslene wrong), or Aimee
ELIMINATION PREDICTIONS:
Claire – VERY UNLIKELY
Like Anya, Claire is a forerunner right now. This does put her at a disadvantage, since when you’re at the top, it’s harder to keep improving every week, but neither of the top two girls of the second elimination have ever been the next eliminated in previous cycles, so she’s safe for awhile yet.
Lauren – VERY UNLIKELY
She got the top photo (in the judges’ opinion) last week, and has been doing remarkably well. Jaslene’s comment this week has a great chance of giving her the kick that she needed to really push herself to prove that she does want to be there, so we’ll see what she manages to turn out, and if she’s able to take all that “potential” and actually turn it into something.
Anya – VERY UNLIKELY
The judges were really impressed with her first photo, and even with her 7th-place photo last week had very little negative to say about her, except for her accent… which at this point they can’t really use as a reason for elimination.
Marvita – UNLIKELY
I don’t think we’re done with Marvita yet. She’s been keeping her head above water with a respectable 7th and 2nd place in the call-out order, and keeping out of any major trouble in the house and in the judging panel. Anyways, I think Tyra will keep her on for a bit longer, if only just to spite everyone (such as myself) who says that her made-up “horse main” mullet ‘do is a fashion travesty.
Aimee – UNLIKELY
If anyone’s a “silent predator” in this competition, I think it’s Aimee. We know just enough about her personality to think she’s adorable, sweet, and wholesome; and we see just enough of her work to know that she can pull of a good picture and that the judges like her (or, at least, don’t hate her). Either they’re editing it like that we’re surprised when she makes it to the final three, or so we won’t miss her when she’s gone. I prefer to think it’s the former, considering her decent call-out placements (5th and 3rd).
Whitney – UNLIKELY
Her size will likely buy her a few more episodes, especially since Tyra acknowledged that her bad film during the last episode wasn’t her fault. Eventually, though, the judges are going to realize that she uses nearly the exact same facial expression in most of her photos, and she’ll either have to adapt or go home.
Fatima – POSSIBLY
Despite the reality TV ratings appeal, she hasn’t managed to turn out a great roll of film yet. So far she’s had one photo the judges have loved… not very good consistency. She’s not in the top six girls, which puts her at a greater risk for elimination if she doesn’t turn out an awesome photo this week. Plus, they compared her to Iman again last week – which is generally not a good sign. I don’t think they’d boot her this week, but if she doesn’t start improving soon, it doesn’t look good for her.
Stacy-Ann – POSSIBLY
Her new hairdo may help her look more edgy and less doll-like, but I’m still not convinced she has any idea what she’s doing and she hasn’t really done anything to make herself stand out in this competition at all. She doesn’t strike me as a very competitive person, and I think that’ll catch up to her sooner than later.
Katarzyna – SOMEWHAT LIKELY
A huge lack of airtime, being compared to Paulina, being called a “Russian mail-order bride,” and being called 8th and 9th in the last two eliminations are all signs which spell out loud and clear: danger! I think Tyra might let her slip by another episode or so in favor of getting rid of a few other loose ends, but she really needs to shine this next episode.
Dominique – QUITE LIKELY
She went from being drag queen to soccer mom in the course of a week… neither bodes well. She’s yet to pull of a photo the judges liked, and they don’t seem to have much positive to say about her. Perhaps the only thing that could save her at this point is the fact that Tyra acknowledged that her haircut was awful, so maybe they’ll do something with it that will help her pull through yet another week.
Amis – QUITE LIKELY
I know there are many Amis fans out there that don’t want to hear this, but Amis’ airtime is becoming less and less, and seemingly more annoying, while personalities like Stacy Ann’s and Anya’s are being focused on more, and in a more positive light. She’s also failed to get a good photo, and is currently at the bottom of the pack with 12th and 10th place call-outs. If she doesn’t pull something amazing out of her hat, she won’t be around much longer.
